It’s easy to believe things we’ve believed in for a long time, even if we might not even know where the belief started or why we believe it. As humans, we tend to have parts of our identity intertwined in these beliefs. When people with different experiences and points of view disagree with us or even tell us what is “right” and “wrong”, it’s easy for us to get upset and feel like they’re attacking who we are as people (because we’ve identified with the beliefs and thoughts we have).
The Expansive Thinking Project is a blog with the intention of bringing expansive, dynamic views to topics such as philosophy, spirituality, human behavior, wellness and experiences we have as humans in a paradoxical and beautiful world.
The purpose is to shine light on ways to ponder about life in an open, multi-dimensional, ever-changing, big-picture way so we may learn to shift our focus of reality from a narrow to a wide lens, so we may not identify with only one dogma, ideology, bias, or perception, and so we may be more open to changing our beliefs when presented with new experiences and information. Not only that, but so we may also be more open and understanding with those who have different experiences and beliefs than our own.
My name is Sophia, and I’m the creator of the Expansive Thinking Project. I will tell you the things I do and my past experiences, but over time through these articles you’ll get a better idea of who I am. I’ve always been a person of many interests and have never felt that there was “one thing” I was meant to do with my life. This is something I’ve struggled with in the past, but I’ve found that there are an infinite number of paths for me to experience and each one is just as valid as the next. I’m confident in embracing the unknown and understand the infinite exciting possibilities that come when purposefully taking chances when outcomes are uncertain.
Currently, I’m a Personal Trainer at Volition Training. I own a clothing company called Awakened Apparel. I’m a rock climber, hiker, reader, athlete, writer and life-long student. I enjoy anything that expands my knowledge and experiences in life and I’m passionate about sharing what I learn with others. I’m excited to be on this journey with you all!
